Nature attractions in Trøndelag

Trøndelag’s nature ranges from the most remote islands along the coast to the mountains in the east, from Femundsmarka and Dovre in the south to Flatanger, Vikna and Børgefjell in the north.
Mountains are easily accessible
The Trøndelag mountains are well prepared for hikers, with marked paths and cabins. The national parks are popular with hikers, but you will find mountainous terrain, walking trails and beautiful countryside all over Trøndelag. The mountains have a rich flora and fauna, with good opportunities for hunting and fishing. Dovrefjell, Trollheimen and Sylane are among Norway’s most beautiful mountains.
The trøndelag coastline
The Trøndelag coastline is dotted with idyllic fishing villages, lighthouses and small marinas from the islands of Hitra and Frøya in the south, along the Fosen peninsula and north along the Namdal coast. You can hire boats and fishing equipment at most places along the coast.
Seven national parks
If you believe that hooking a fish or flushing ptarmigan capture the best moments in life you will be happy to know that there are plenty of opportunities for hunting and fishing in Trøndelag’s seven national parks. The parks all have a rich wildlife, and if you are lucky you may see lynx, wolverine, bear, wolf or musk ox and reindeer, depending on which national park you visit.
